This class will teach you the reasons and the skills to develop a daily sketchbook practice. Sketching is the foundation of all art because it teaches us to see our world like an artist. In this class we will learn basic drawing techniques in pencil, charcoal, and pen. We will work from life and from photos, learning perspective, rendering, and gesture. Committing to a sketchbook habit will change your art and your life for the better.
Supplies to bring:
Basic pencil set with erasers and sharpener
Compressed and or willow charcoal
Kneaded eraser, (may be in pencil set)
Drawing pens – (any kind, even black or blue ballpoint)
Sketchbook – preferably Moleskin 5″ x 8.25″
All workshop students get 10% anything you buy for the class or the day of the class.
Cheryl Kelley is an internationally recognized photorealist oil painter. She has worked with Bernaducci Meisel Gallery in NYC, is currently showing with Anthony Brunelli Fine Art in NY, as well as Tangent gallery in San Francisco. She is new to New Mexico but has shown with Evoke Contemporary in the railyard. She is well known for her feminine, sensual and reflective paintings of classic cars. Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as the New York Times, the New York Sun, the Village Voice, Art News, American Art collector, New American Painting, and a host of other periodicals. Her work has been shown in museums and art fairs around the world. Her body of work of classic car paintings is monumental and she continues to be very prolific. Recently her focus has shifted to portraits and landscapes, and she hopes to make her presence known on the New Mexico art scene. Over the years, Cheryl has taught private and classroom painting classes to children and adults. She enjoys creating confidence in her students.
This workshop is held in our downstairs classroom, which is not accessible to wheelchairs and some other mobility devices.
